David Liu

Building a Team That Did Not Exist.

Founder & Captain, Boys Varsity Volleyball · Academy Volleyball Club

David Liu founded the boys varsity volleyball team at Crystal Springs Uplands School. The school did not have one. He petitioned the athletics department for a team and then recruited the players himself, fifteen of them, until there were enough to field a roster.

The team finished second in its division league in its first season and David was named to the league's First Team. He is a captain now, and through the season the training runs three hours a day. He plays club volleyball as well, for Academy Volleyball Club, and the national result below belongs to that team, not to the school team he founded.

In the future, David hopes the team he started keeps running after he leaves.
